Bonneville County Divorce Records

In Bonneville County, divorce records confirm the legal dissolution of marriage. These records are maintained by the executive branch (Idaho Department of Health & Welfare) and by the judicial branch (Clerk of the District Court).

Divorces are court cases initiated by married couples in the Magistrate Division of the Bonneville County District Court. This resulting court file contains all case details, such as the divorced parties’ names, case number, filing date, and dissolution date, as well as documents lodged by the parties or the court, including the divorce petition, orders, summonses, and the final divorce decree. The divorce decree is the final and complete court judgment containing all settlement terms (e.g., property division, support, custody).

To obtain a Bonneville County divorce court record, one can search the Idaho iCourt portal or contact/visit the Bonneville County Clerk of the District Court’s Office.

The clerk regularly submits the disposition of divorce cases to the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare. Based on these reports, the department creates "divorce certificates." These certificates, part of the state’s vital records, serve as abstracts of the final divorce decree and can be used to officially certify that a divorce occurred in Bonneville County. Unlike divorce court records, which remain broadly accessible to the public under ICAR 32, divorce certificates are legally confidential for 50 years from the date that the divorce was decreed.

In 2025, Bonneville County recorded 540 divorce filings, according to court statistics from the Idaho Judiciary’s Case and Charge Data Dashboard. This figure represents a 6.9% decrease from the previous year. The county’s 2025 divorce filings were nearly evenly split between divorces with minor children (265) and those without minor children (275).
